Magog

Magog

In Magog, you can participate in all kinds of events, all more interesting one than another. For example, the Memphrémagog International Swim Competition and the Memphrémagog Arts Circuits, as well as the Magog-Orford Grape Festival attract both inhabitants and visitors. In summer, you can practice a lot of activities at the lac Memphrémagog like swimming, golfing, horseback riding, tennis, cycling and in-line skating. Try to catch a glimpse of Memphré, the legendary creature of the lake, which is said to have been seen 225 times since 1798 and which has been making the reputation of the lake for more than 20 years.

Then, take the cycle path in the parc de la Baie-de-Magog, or take the marsh’s trails at the Marais de la Rivière-aux-Cerises. In winter, it is also possible to go skiing, skating, sliding or snowmobiling along the lake. At the plage des cantons, the Memphrémagog Maze invites you to try to find your way through its numerous corridors and to solve its riddles to find the center. You can circulate in the labyrinth by foot or by in-line skates. On the site, you will also find a playground and picnic areas as well as a beach by the lake, where you will be able to swim or rent a sailboat, a canoe, a kayak or a pedal boat. If you want to observe birds, the Île du marais, located south to lac Magog, is the perfect place. Other than common species (american bittern, swap sparrows, common yellowthroats, tip-up ducks, common snipes and Northern harriers), the marsh houses a large number of other species like the least bittern, the marsh wren, the pied-billed greb, the common moorhen and the willow flycatcher.

Another important attraction worth visiting is the Vignoble Le Cep d’Argent. A guide will tell you the history of the vineyard and will teach you the different operations required to obtain high-quality grapes. You will then visit the wine press, which is the place where grape juice is extracted, and then the fermentation cellar where you will witness the different steps of wine production, including bottling. Finally, you will have the chance to taste four different wines with an expert who will give you tips to fully appreciate each one’s flavour.
