Cookshire-Eaton (Cookshire)

Cookshire is the most important municipality of the MRC of Haut-St-François. On the Circuit des Loyalistes, you will find the John-Cook covered bridge and in Johnville, the Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix Church, as well as the parc écoforestier and its remarkably diversified ecosystem. You will also find a peat bog and ombrotrophic ponds, a brook, forest crops, a rich wildlife and flora and the tangible traces of the last glaciation. A nature center is also at your disposal on the site. In the small village of Eaton Center, the Musée de la Société d’histoire du comté de Compton will tell you about the history of the county and the first settlers who settled in the region. Not very far from there, you will see a pretty house with balcony, where the first surgery under anaesthesia was performed in Canada. Finally, in the township of Newport, you will be able to visit the Ferme Malvibois, considered as the largest lamb farm in the country.
