Racine

A Cultural City

Just like for most of the cities in the Eastern Townships region, we owe the foundation of the municipality of Racine to the Americans, and more precisely to the English living in Vermont, in New-England. These settlers were drawn by the freshly cleared and fertile lands we had to offer. Throughout the years, the municipality developed, and from the 15 people original inhabitants, the population is now 1,237.

In 1995, the municipality of Racine expanded, thus taking advantage of what was the municipality of Brompton Gore in 1920. There are many farms in the municipality, but also cultural establishments dating back to the 19th century. The Centre culturel Yvonne L. Bombardier is one of them. It offers a beautiful showcase to artists from the region and the area.
