Saint-Alphonse-de-Granby
Founded in 1890, the municipality of Saint-Alphonse was known as Hungerford Mills. At the time of its official foundation, the municipality was then populated by inhabitants who did not have the chance to settle in one of the seigniories near Montréal because of the overpopulation of the land and the over-use of the soil. The idea of clearing fertile soil persuaded a good hundred people. They built sawmills in order to clear the area, sow the land and later on harvest.
Throughout the years, the municipality expanded as much in size as in the number of inhabitants. Here, people can do sports like karting and bicycle, thanks to the Route verte, special activities, and they can get involved in the community. The industries are still present and with the farms, agrotourism expanded, giving you, among other things, the chance to visit the Qualité Summum cheese dairy, and some breeding farms. Finally, the Yamaska River allows days of sunny idleness on the bank or on the water.
